Currently, there is a great demand for classical TCM knowledge.
However, detailed information was only available in the Chinese language. This has changed.
This course uses the original Chinese texts as a stable and extensive foundation and translates them into English in order to facilitate the closest link with the source.
This unique course is offered to you by the TCM Classics Research Institute in collaboration with the Shandong University of TCM.
Shāng Hán Lùn
The Shāng Hán Lùn (“On Cold Damage”) is the oldest surviving, most copiously commented, and most revered Chinese medical text on externally contracted disease. It describes the origin and development of such diseases and their treatment by a highly sophisticated use of medicinals combined in formulae that are skillfully modulated to deal with a vast variety of disease manifestations.
The Shāng Hán Lùn originally formed part of the now inextant Shāng Hán Zá Bìng Lùn (“On Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases”) by the Eastern Hàn physician Zhāng Jī (circa 150-219 A.D.).
The sections related to externally contracted disease were reorganized by Wáng Shū-Hé (210-285) to form the Shāng Hán Lùn, and the sections related to other diseases of internal medicine were later re-arranged to form the Jīn Guì Yào Lüè (“Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Coffer”). |

During the course the classic context as well as the modern clinical application will be explained. Although these texts were written 1800 years ago, they have been extensively used, tested and commented on.
This makes them a very valuable and useful ‘source of knowledge’.
As you will learn, the Shāng Hán Lùn can not only be applied to externally contracted diseases, but to a large variety of other internal diseases as well.
As long as you understand the mechanisms of the disease and the formula, you can apply it effectively to a large scope of problems, that are nowadays part of the modern clinic.
What Others Think
Some comments of students of the first European Shāng Hán Lùn course:
"After I finished the Shāng Hán Lùn and Jīn Guì Yào Lüè courses, the results I have in my clinic have more than significantly improved."
"Now I have a much more profound understanding of pathomechanisms in the human body and I feel pretty confident to treat whatever complex disease."
"During the courses on classics I felt that I really started to grasp the real meaning of TCM for the first time.
Very exciting!"
"I’m excited about the TCM Classics because every time I discover a new “gem” to improve my treatments directly."
"The in-depth study of the Shāng Hán Lùn and Jīn Guì Yào Lüè gives me access to more than 200 formulas of the same school of thought.
This gives me insight and ability to adapt these formulas to fit almost any complaint.
Therefore, these two classics are of enormous value to me in my practice."
Prof. dr. Wang Xinlu, former president of Shandong University of TCM:
“The classics of TCM are a treasure, which a nation spent thousands of years collecting and thousands devoted their lives developing it. It is worth for anyone of us to spend our life-time studying it, enjoying it and preserving it!” |
