TCM Master Study at the Shandong University of TCM (Jinan, P.R.China)

TCM Master Study 2010 - Exam!
Ten students pass the two year Practical Shāng Hán Lùn and Jīn Guì Yào Lüè diploma course exam at the Shandong University of TCM.
October 2010 - Jinan - P.R.China. 5th TCM Master Study Event at the Shandong University of TCM and the Shandong TCM Hospital in Jinan.

After 50 days of lecture and many more days of self-study, eleven students did exam in the Shāng Hán Lùn and Jīn Guì Yào Lüè in front of prof. dr. WangXinlu, prof. dr. Jiang Jianguo, and prof. dr. Tao Hanhua. A fitting celebration for our 5th TCM Master Study Event.
This exam consisted of writing two essays and giving two presentations. One essay and presentation of each subject. The students had received a research question from prof. dr. Jiang Jianguo, and from prof. dr. Tao Hanhua.
The students did a line by line study of these important TCM classical texts. This gave them a deep and profound understanding of TCM theory and clinical application.
Although these text were written about 1800 years ago, and are still applicable for modern diseases. As they say in China: "you can never be a great doctor if you did not study the Shāng Hán Lùn and Jīn Guì Yào Lüè in-depth."
The students did study these texts in great detail and know that they have made an big step in the right direction. However, many more years have to follow to digest and apply this precious knowledge.

The 6th TCM Master Study Event will be in October 2012. The subject will be Wen Bing.

For his achievements, prof. dr. Li Jie received a special certificate from prof. dr. Wang Xinl (former president of SDUTCM and now vice-chairman of the governmental TCM department).

TCM Master Study 2008 - our first step in the beautiful world of the Shang Han Lun

In October 2008 we organized our third TCM Master Trip. This trip is especially interesting for people who want to know more about the Shang Han Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lüe, two very important classic TCM texts. According to many great TCM masters one cannot practice successfully without having studied these important texts.

20 - 24 October 2008 - Clinical practice at the Shandong TCM Hospital

In the mornings of the second week we followed the professors in the clinic and in the afternoons we discusssed the cases of that day.

The participants who followed the whole program received a certificate from the Shandong University of TCM.

Arrival at the hotel in Jinan. Note the red banner with welcome message.	Confucius makes sure that everything goes to plan in the hotel :-)	Welcome dinner. And the food is excellent!

Prof. dr. Wang Xinlu (president of the Shandong University of TCM) and prof. dr. Li Jie	Prof. dr. Jiang Jianguo is teaching us the Shang Han Lun. Prof. dr. Jiang is a very energetic person who freely presents his knowledge. He was the primary student of the late famous prof. Li Ke Shao (Shand Han Lun expert).	We were very lucky to have prof. dr. Wang Xinlu (president of the Shandong University of TCM) to teach us the Jun Gui Yao Lüe. Here prof. Wang teaches us the real meaning of Ben Tun.

With prof. dr. Wang Zhonglin in his clinic. Prof. Wang can recite more than 1000 classical herbal formulas (ingredients, dosage, time period, etc.) and uses them in practice with very good results.	The formulas are copied for us from the patient file. We then distribute them among the group for discussion in the afternoon.	Discussion of patients with prof. Wang. Here he explains the formula and the modifications in detail. This professor is a good example of how to use classical formulas for modern application.

Here we are waiting in the hospital before we enter the room with patients. Everybody was very interested to see what these foreigners where doing.	One of the out-patient pharmacies. Patients hand over their recipe and receive the herbs prescribed by the doctor. In the in-patient pharmacy they use modern technology to proces the herbs.

In the weekend we visisted the Red Leaves Valley. Here you can buy fresh fruit.	Relax and enjoy.	More people that relax and enjoy.

This school is very famous because its students performed at the opening of the Beijing Olympics (Tajiquan, drums, people walking on the globe).

Applaus from the students. It was a private demonstration for our group. Very special indeed!	Well, those kids can do everything.	And more dangerous things as well.

And this also.	And we were not surprised that they could do this as well.	Our group at the Wushu village. This is a great project were they restore the village of the 108 heroes (Outlaws of the Marsh). 72 of these heroes came from Shandong.
